ANKC-Redlands Febuary 2001

2001 at ANKC and Queensland's first Jumping Competition.

As Narrated by Billy...

This event was actually our second ANKC event for the 2001 calendar. I got a quali two weeks ago at Logan, so if I could get a quali tonight, that would be my AD title. Tonight is also the first Jumpers class for Queensland with 69 entries (which is huuuge for Qld). We've had over 12 inches of rain this week, so training has been limited and it is still raining now. Mum's about to phone and make sure the trial is still on. Yep, thumbs up, we're still on. Mum's putting in all the wet weather gear, at least it is cool... last weekend was 36 degrees celcius with 80% humidity. We get there to find the grounds are not too bad, a few puddles and a bit slushy but not a quagmire. Masters and Open run through quite quickly- lots and lots of scratchings. But the new one round rule is also speeding things up heaps. The novice course looks pretty straight forward, no real tricks. Mum has some troubles getting my attention on the starting line, there are so many great smells about with the rain, but then I look up and we are off. Over the broad, through the tyre, into the weaves, over the spread, onto the table, then across to the dog walk, through the flexi, over the A-Frame, through another tunnel, then two jumps to home. Easy, peasy, no time faults, and Mum didn't even fall over in the mud. So YAY, that is my quali and title for ANKC. Mum promised I could retire from ANKC now and not have to jump the big heights anymore- I think I'll hold her to that, but just to make sure, when we go into jumpers, I'll go under all the big jumps so she knows without a doubt I don't really want to be doing these ones anymore. As for Missy, she wants to make sure Mum isn't getting too complacent, so the instant Mum turned her back from the table to the dog walk, Missy decided to go around instead of Walk-Up. No quali for her tonight- but Mum was reminded, never turn your back on your dog- no matter how quick they are!! In the jumpers Missy had some problems with the turn from the tunnel to the broad jump the first time round, got it the second time, by which time Mum was getting dizzy, the rest of the course ran well, but the approaches to both tyres were tight to say the least. The course is attached below. So not the greatest start to jumpers for either of us. Aw, well, I don't have to worry about it anymore- only ADAA mini's for me anymore.
