The Genesis: Welcome to Harrisonhill Shetland Sheepdogs! Our names are Glenn and Tracey and we share our lives with three very special Shetland Sheepdogs. We live in the hinterland of the Gold Coast in Queensland. Shelties entered our lives fairly recently, when we first moved to acreage living together. We searched for "just the right dog" to accompany our horses and to suit our lifestyle and discovered the Sheltie. After some looking we purchased our first sheltie and, as all Shetland Sheepdog lovers know, there is no stopping at one!!! Now our shelties pretty much run our lives. We also compete in obedience and agility with our shelties, and while it has been a steep learning curve we are very proud of their accomplishments. Our Goals at Harrisonhill: Our goals at Harrisonhill are quite different to those of many dog breeders. We are not 'dog-show' people, nor would we call ourselves professional dog breeders, so you won't necessarily find many champions in our breeding. However, we do enjoy competing in obedience and agility. Our goal, when we breed our occassional litter, is to produce the perfect companion: intelligent, loving, willing and active. We are self confessed Shetland Sheepdog enthusiasts, and while we do not aim to produce the consummate show-ring sheltie or to produce dozens of sheltie pups, we do aim for the ideal companion. That doesn't mean that we don't put lots of effort into making sure that our dogs are stunning to look at and that we work towards producing dogs that conform to the official Shetland Sheepdog standard. We also ensure that all our breeding stock are checked and cleared of the common hereditary problems in shelties. We chose shelties to share our lives because of their personalities, versatility, athleticism, trainability, temperament and intelligence. Our aim is to enjoy these features in our own dogs and to nuture these qualities when we breed and socialise our pups in order to help us produce the perfect all-round companion dog. In doing this we hope to produce wonderful performance dogs that have a love for working. Having said that though, we believe that if you were to ask our dogs they'd say that while accumulating titles in obedience and agility is fun, there is no greater achievement in life than to be a treasured member of a human family. |
