| Heel on Lead |
The Handler and dog are to work
briskly as a team with the dog on the lead in the heeling position
to the left of the handler. The dog must work on a loose lead, any
tightening or corrections on the lead are penalised. The judge will
give a series of commands to the handler that work the dog and handler
through a pattern of movements which will include sits, drops, stands,
left turns, right turns, left-about turns and right-about turns. The
pattern will also include three variations in pace; slow pace, normal
pace and fast pace. The handler and dog will also be commanded to
perform a figure-of-eight in which they must heel at least twice around
two stewards standing approximately three meters apart.
During this pattern the handler may
only use the verbal commands heel, drop(down),and stand coupled with
hand signals that do not touch the dog. These are in response to the
judge's orders of forward, down, and stand. The handler should give
a command only once, at the Judge's order to halt, the handler must
stop and the dog must sit smartly at heel without verbal command or
hand signal.
TOP |
| Stand for Exam |
The dog is to stand steadily on
lead while the judge examines the dog. The dog should show no aggression,
or undue resentment or shyness.
The handler will be commanded to move
forward and stand the dog. On the judge's order of leave, the handler
should command the dog to stay and walk forward to the front of the
dog and stand facing the dog. The judge will then examine the dog's
head, body, legs and hindquaters. The judge will then order return,
and the handler must return around the back of the dog, while the
dog remains standing still until the order exercise finished is given.
The handler may use only the verbal commands of heel, stand and stay
once only on order from the judge.
TOP |
| Heel Free |
As for Heel on Lead, but the dog
and handler need to work as a team at a brisk pace with the dog in
the heeling position without the use of a lead. Most often
(though not mandatory) the pattern used for the Heel on Lead
is also used for Heel Free. The commands remain the same.
TOP |
| Stand Stay |
The dog is to stand steadily off
lead with the handler at least five metres away.
The handler will be commanded to move
forward off lead and stand the dog. On the judge's order of leave,
the handler should command the dog to stay and walk forward until
the judge orders 'about-turn and halt', the handler should then turn
and stand facing the dog. The judge will then circle the dog but keep
around one metre from the dog. The judge will then order return, and
the handler must return around the back of the dog, while the dog
remains standing still until the order exercise finished is given.
The handler may use only once the verbal commands of heel, stand and
stay on order from the judge.
TOP |
| Recall |
The dog is to sit where left off
lead and then, when called, promptly return to the handler who will
be standing at least 12 metres from the dog.
The handler will be given the order
to move forward and halt, at which time the dog should sit automatically
at the handler's side. On the judge's order of leave, the handler
should command the dog to stay and walk forward until the judge orders
'about-turn and halt', the handler should then turn and stand facing
the dog. On the order, 'call' the handler may attract the dog's attention
by calling its name, after a moment the handler should give the command
'come' and the dog should return straight to its handler at a brisk
pace and sit directly in front. On the order 'finish' from the judge,
the handler should send the dog to heel where the dog will go behind
the handler to sit in the heeling position on the left side.
TOP |
| Sit Stay |
The dog is to stay in a sit position
for one minute while amongst a group of dogs and where the handler
will be standing at least 12 metres from the dog.
As this is a group exercise, all handlers
will be asked to take up position next to a marker with their dogs
in the sit position. On the judge's order of leave, the handlers
should command the dogs to stay and walk forward until the judge orders
'about-turn and halt', the handlers should then turn and stand facing
the dogs. After one minute, the judge will command the handlers to
return. The handlers must return around the back of their dog, while
the dog remains sitting until the order exercise finished is given.
.

| Drop Stay |
The dog is to stay in a down position
for three minutes while amongst a group of dogs and where the handler
will be standing at least 12 metres from the dog.
This too is a group exercise. All
handlers will be asked to take up position next to a marker with their
dogs in the down position. On the judge's order of leave, the
handlers should command the dogs to stay and walk forward until the
judge orders 'about-turn and halt', the handlers should then turn
and stand facing the dogs. After three minutes, the judge will command
the handlers to return. The handlers must return around the back of
their dog, while the dog remains dropped until the order exercise
finished is given. |

Seek
Back
Lost Article |
On command
the dog should seek and retrieve the article.
The article
is given by the handler to the judge when ordered. The exercise then
starts with a heel free exercise to lay a track for the dog. While
dog and handler are within the heel free exercise, the steward will
lay the object over their track. The judge will then order 'about
turn' and 'halt' and 'send'. The handler may gently place their hand
over their dog's nose and then give a command to retrieve. The dog
is expected to find the article, either by site or by scent, pick
it up, and return to the handler at a brisk pace. Once the dog has
retrieved the article, the judge will order the handler to 'face',
at which point the handler will pivot to face the dog. The dog will
then sit directly in front of the handler and hold the article until
the judge orders 'take it', at which point the handler commands the
dog to give the article into his/her hand. On the order 'finish'
from the judge, the handler should send the dog to heel where the
dog will go behind the handler to sit in the heeling position on the
left side.

| Directed
Jumping |
On command
the dog is to leave the handler and go to the box/ prescribed area
to sit, and then to jump as directed.
The box is a
prescribed area marked by a frame in the midpoint at the far end of
the ring. There will also be two jumps set up halfway between the
handler and the box, toward the sides of the ring. One jump will be
a bar, the other a high jump. The handler will be directed to stand
around 10 meters in front of the jumps and midway between them.
For each part
of the exercise, on order from the judge, the handler commands the
dog to go to the box. The dog should leave the handler at a brisk
pace in a fairly straight line. Once the dog is in the box the handler
may call the dogs name to gain its attention, then command it to sit.
(The dog doesn't need to be straight on to the handler.) The judge
will then order or signal which jump should be taken first, and the
handler will command the dog to jump it. The dog should do so at a
brisk rate without touching the jump, whilst the dog is jumping, the
handler should turn to face the dog so that it sits directly in front
of the handler on return. On the order 'finish' from the judge,
the handler should send the dog to heel where the dog will go behind
the handler to sit in the heeling position on the left side. The judge
will order part exercise finished, and the dog may be rewarded. The
exercise is then repeated for the remaining jump.

Scent
Discrimination |
On command
the dog should retrieve the correct articles by scent and promptly
return to handler. The handler is to provide
sets of articles including leather, metal and wood and designates
in which order the items will be retrieved.
The handler
will take up position as ordered by the judge at least 5 metres from,
and facing the opposite direction to the articles. The judge will
offer the designated article to the handler who imparts his/her scent
with their hands only, and then shows and tells the judge the article
number. Without touching the article directly, the steward will then
place the article with the other 12 articles on the ground or canvas
. On order from the judge the handler and dog will about turn to face
the articles. The judge will then order to 'send' the dog and the
handler may place their hand over the dog's nose and give the command
to retrieve. The dog should go to the articles at a brisk pace but
may take its time in selecting the article. After picking up the article
the dog should return to sit directly in front of the handler. On
order from the judge the handler may command the dog to give the article
to hand. On the order 'finish', the handler should send the
dog to heel where the dog will go behind the handler to sit in the
heeling position on the left side. The judge will then take the article
and order part exercise finished, and the dog may be rewarded. The
judge will then deem the article 'correct' or 'incorrect'. The
exercise is then repeated for the two remaining articles.
If the article was incorrect, then
it cannot be returned to the other articles and the remaining exercises
are done with less than the 12 items. If any of the three articles
was incorrect then a non-qualifying score will result.
